In 2009 the ELCA passed the Human Sexuaility Gift and Trust Social Statment that among other things opened the door for clergy and lay members in same-sex relationships to be welcomed more fully into the ELCA. After a decision at the 2022 churchwide assembly portions of the social statement are being reconsidered for revision. As part of this reconsideration the task force is seeking voices from across our church to make their views known. For five weeks we will gather first to hear the history and use of social statements in our denomination and go through the study guide laid out by the task force before taking the survey to help them in their work. We will meet for five weeks on Monday evenings starting Monday August 24th at 6:30 p.m. No pre-reading is required for this class.
